Lake Manyara National Park

About Lake Manyara National Park

Lake Manyara National Park sits at the base of the Great Rift Valley escarpment and covers about 330 square kilometers, with two-thirds of the park being covered by Lake Manyara itself during the wet season.

The park is known for its lush groundwater forest, open savannah, and alkaline lake that attracts thousands of flamingos and other water birds. It is one of the most accessible parks in Tanzania and is often included in short safari itineraries.

Lake Manyara is especially famous for its unique tree-climbing lions, a rare behavior also seen in only a few places in Africa.
